FAQs
Got a question? Check whether we’ve already answered it for you…
What is WHMIS?
WHMIS stands for the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. It is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. The purpose of WHMIS is to help employers ensure that their employees obtain information necessary for them to know and be trained on properly handling hazardous materials in the workplace.
What are the WHMIS training requirements for Canadian employers?
Under the occupational health and safety legislation, employers must provide workers with WHMIS training who may work with hazardous products/materials and/or will be exposed to hazardous products/materials in the workplace. For more information on WHMIS training requirements, contact our advisors at (1) 833 247-3652.
How can Canadian employers address workplace violence and harassment?
Employers must develop and implement a written workplace violence and harassment policy and prevention plan. This policy must be drafted in consultation with the occupational health and safety committee, the occupational health and safety representative, or in absence of a committee representative, with the workers themselves.
In addition, employers must provide workplace violence and harassment training to all employees, including management.
