A business can be selected for a CVOR audit for several reasons. Most common ones include poor safety performance, high violation rate, history of accidents and violations, previously failed audit, and complaints to Ministry of Transportation. Audit selections can also be random. A commercial vehicle operating business can also voluntarily request an audit to have their safety rating assessed.
If you fail a CVOR audit, your safety rating may be downgraded to conditional. You'll then have to go through another audit to get your rating back to satisfactory. A business may also incur additional fines and CVOR points for any violations revealed during the audit. In cases of severe violations, your operating privileges may be suspended or cancelled.
The Ministry of Transportation can conduct a CVOR facility audit at any time. Typically, CVOR audits are triggered when a carrier's overall violation rate exceeds 50 per cent.
The duration of the audit depends on the size of the facility and level of compliance but typically it may take three to four days. A facility audit includes an examination of documents related to hours of service, vehicle maintenance, and driver qualifications and training.
By implementing a proper safety management system and fulfilling requirements for CVOR compliance, you can improve a poor CVOR rating.
